Carnivore or Herbivore? Choosing between meaty delights or going plant-powered! 🌱🍖

We are currently at a remarkable juncture in history. As disease rates surge worldwide and research advances on the link between diet and health, consumers are increasingly driven to make healthier dietary choices, even if it entails adopting more restrictive approaches. Presently, the health community finds itself sharply divided between two prominent (albeit polarizing) diets: the carnivore diet and plant-based alternatives.

The carnivore diet is centered on consuming the flesh of other animals, while a plant-based approach emphasizes whole foods, particularly abundant fresh fruits and vegetables, promoting a natural and wholesome way of eating.

The comparison between these two diets arises from their immense popularity as ways of eating. Across the map, hundreds of thousands of individuals actively engage in these contrasting dietary approaches. It is truly remarkable to witness such a dichotomy. The intention here is not solely to compare opposing sides but also to illuminate their contrasting aspects. As both diets represent opposite ends of the spectrum, a meticulous analysis of each will hopefully provide us with a lucid understanding of the ideal dietary approach.

Carnivore or Herbivore: To Meat or Not to Meat? That is the deliciously perplexing question!

As non-scientists without expensive medical degrees or prestigious titles, we may wonder if we have the ability to understand complex research. However, the truth is that we can conduct our own research. It may surprise you to learn that many of the publications read by top scientists are freely accessible online. With just an internet connection, we can browse through countless studies, spanning decades and worth hundreds of millions of dollars. We may not look like traditional scientists, but we have the same resources at our disposal. So, let’s start our study.

Carnivore or Herbivore: Where to Begin? Lettuce meat the challenge head-on! 🥬🍖

There are not merely mountains, but entire mountain ranges worth of data to consider. Any attempt to take everything in would be an exercise in futility. If we’re going to understand this complex issue with any clarity (or sanity for that matter), we have to keep things boiled down to essentials. Only the relevant information needs to be considered. The only thing that is relevant to our discussion is the very backbone of scientific research, is it observable, and is it repeatable? Two vital questions that will give us both direction and clarity.

Testimonials from Real Life Carnivores and Herbivores

For our research into these radically different diets, real life testimonials are vital for our query. Granted, on the internet people can (and do) spout off the most outrageous lies. Despite that, we can still employ our golden rule, ‘is it observable and repeatable’? In many cases that answer is yes.

On the carnivore side, there are dozens of testimonials of people reporting near miraculous health results. A cursory look at carnivore.diet reveals a plethora of people like Adam, a 47 year old professional photographer who suffered from weight issues, brain fog and lethargy. After going on the carnivore diet Adam joyfully reports that his life has vastly improved, his weight is under control, his mind is clearer and his energy levels are fantastic. There’s also Jeffrey, a 21 year old suffered from ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a specific type of arthritis that targets the spine. After six months of being on the carnivore diet, Jeffrey had nearly reversed his seemingly unsolvable condition. Finally there’s Lindy, a fifty year old who weighed 770 pounds, suffered from prediabetes, thyroid issues, sleep apnea and deteriorating eyesight. After 22 months of being on the carnivore diet. Lindy dropped 293 pounds, eliminated her prediabetes symptoms, as well as her migraines and joint pain. There are many similar testimonials of real people, who experienced real, verifable results.

Let’s also take a look at testimonials from those who tried eating a plant based diet. There is no shortage of those. Forks Over Knives reports hundreds of positive testimonials and here are just a handful. Ardis Coffman was 80 years old when she first started on a plant based diet. She suffered from Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and was taking five different medications. With support from family, Ardiss began eating plant based dinners. Breakfast and lunch, she ate what she liked, but her dinners were plant based. After a few months Ardiss reported drastically lower A1C numbers and was able to get off all five of her medications. Shortly after that miraculous event, Ardiss switched to a fully plant based diet, and has reported enjoying the best health of her entire life.

Then there’s Julie Tomlinson. Julie was middle-aged, 340 pounds, suffered from heart palpitations, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and severe anxiety. Julie committed at first to merely cutting out animal product and was thrilled when within one year she lost one hundred pounds. So thrilled in fact that Julie decided to transition to a fully plant based lifestyle and reports normal cholesterol and blood pressure, improved metal health, and eliminated GERD.

Finally we have Joel Christiana, a 49 year old gentleman who weighed 420 pounds, took blood pressure medication, suffered from brain fog, and lethargy. In 5 years of eating a plant based diet, Joel lost 210 pounds, enjoyed clearer skin, eliminated his brain fog and was off his medications.

The Carnivore vs. Herbivore Dilemma: A Thoughtful Exploration

Now things have become interesting. In the interests of fairness I have presented two sides of the issue. By the two small paragraphs I showed you, one could easily make a case for either side. So, how can decide which diet is ‘the right diet’? Any well meaning proponent could very easily make the case that either diet would qualify as, ‘observable and repeatable’.

Carnivores vs. Herbivores: Choosing the Best Diet

Let’s get one thing clear before moving on. There is no such thing as ‘the right diet’. Mostly because making a claim over ‘the right diet’ is vague and meaningless. In order to properly understand any issue, especially in regards to health, we must learn to ask detailed, specific questions. When discussing issues of health, it is essential to think in terms of what is natural. The simple reality is that the reason disease has risen so much in our world, is because we are living in an unnatural state. Let’s face the facts, in the past twenty years we have witnessed more new diseases arise than we have in the past 5,000 years of recorded history. We could debate over the finer points of how this happened, but the fact remains, we live, eat and work in a very different manner than our ancestors did. Now maybe you’ll understand why asking about ‘the right diet’ doesn’t make sense. It’s as if we think that out there, someone has the secret answers that we do not have. Ultimately this is a dead end road that gets us nowhere, while we continue to get sicker. What we are all after is optimal health results.

Carnivore or Herbivore: The Battle for Optimal Health! 🥩🥦

Here’s a little known secret I will let you in on; you can get good results from virtually anything. For example, I could create a study where I dehydrate some poor soul for 48 hours, give them a soda and then boast about the incredible benefits of soda. Obviously this would be an extreme example but it gets the point across. Results can be cheapened and skewed, show me benefits over a lifetime. That’s why we ask the two questions, ‘is it observable’ and ‘is it repeatable’?

Exploring Further: Carnivores vs. Herbivores

Earlier, I mentioned real success stories from people on the carnivore diet. I have no desire to detract or diminish their impressive results, because they are impressive. It is always good to see someone turning their life around and experiencing less disease. That does not detract from the reality that there is much more to the story.

People do experience positive results on the carnivore diet. That is a fact. Rather than merely point to positive results and call case closed, let’s dig a little deeper. Why are people experiencing such positive effects? The carnivore diet is a fairly simple way of eating, low carbs, high fat, high protein. Basically just eat lots of red meat. Carnivore advocates are quick to conclude that the reason for all the wondrous health benefits is the meat itself. Is it true? Are these positive results really stemming from eating a meat based diet?

The Meat-Eater’s Quandary: A Carnivorous Conundrum!

For your consideration, I will present to you what I call the carnivores dilemma. For well over a decade, numerous studies have been done showing the harmful effects of meat in our diets. It appears that our bodies do not metabolize animal protein very well. Then there is the issue of meat toxicity. Due to modern agricultural practices, virtually all meat found in the supermarket is laden with chemicals, hormones, feces, and even parasites. You read that correctly. Sadly the standards for meat packaging are laughably poor. It becomes very clear, very quickly, that eating industrialized met is not the answer. Not by a long shot. This is the dilemma that carnivore advocates are usually unwilling to deal with. How can anyone justify eating a solidly meat based diet, when meat is so tainted?

If in fact meat is so terrible, then how are all these people experiencing such extraordinary effects? Maybe the answer has less to do with what people are ingesting and more about what they have removed. Participants in the carnivore diet immediately cut out processed foods. Automatically a win. Further, they remove artificial sugars, junk foods, all the nasty things that have seeped into our American diets. Another win. The body has an incredible capacity to heal itself. You do not need to have a perfect diet for your body to begin healing itself. Remove enough obstacles, and for the most part your body will do the rest. It would seem that this is the secret sauce of the carnivore diet. By removing so much of processed foods, and artificial sugars, you have automatically put your body in a much better environment for healing.

Kale: The Reigning Monarch of Healthy Eats! 👑🥬

The carnivore diet can claim real results, yet these results can also be skewed. What about a plant based diet? As stated above, there are thousands of real life testimonials from people experiencing incredible results from a plant based diet. A very good sign from the outset. fro decades participants in plant based diets have reported incredible health benefits, and dramatic reversal of various diseases. Another very good sign

That doesn’t make any sense does it? How can someone experience healing from the wrong diet? It’s like saying that two and two equals five, an obvious impossibility. Right? Well, perhaps not. Think about it this way, it’s less about whether two and two is four, and more about the fact that five is closer to four than say, six. Five would still be the wrong answer, but it’s much closer to the right answer. What we are all missing an important key here. We’re so focused on looking at results that we are not judging the quality of the results.

To be fair, earlier I mentioned that is is very easy to skew results. Specifically I applied this to the carnivore diet, but how can I claim this isn’t the case with a plant based diet?

The carnivore diet is a fairly recent health craze, and as such has very little research (if any) backing it. Whereas plant based eating has a rich plethora of research to back up its veracity. Respected doctors and researchers such Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Caldwel Esselstyn, Prof. T. Coin Campbell and John McDougall have all presented thoroughly researched cases for plant based eating. Not to mention the thousands of individual testimonials reporting their success on a plant based diet.

In the case of the carnivore diet specifically, there is virtually no research done on the long term effects of a meat based diet. This quickly become s problematic for carnivore advocates. Some proponents will simply dismiss the lack of studies by claiming that there aren’t any negative studies done. While that would be technically accurate, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is true. A lack of evidence when there is no research does not mean that the diet is safe. This requires you, to become a more educated consumer. The more educated you are, the better of a decision you will be capable of making.

Ultimately a plant based diet addresses so many of the health related issues we face in our modern culture. Every issue from cancer, diabetes, obesity, inflammatory diseases and the like, all are addressed with the amazing benefits of a plant baed diet. Plant based eating is backed by reputable scientists and researchers. There is a rich history of cultures eating a plant based diet going back for millennia. Some researchers today are making the case that man is actually an herbivore by nature, pointing to our dental structure, ideal for chewing plants. Plant based diets are easily the most natural way of eating. There are hundreds of thousands of testimonials reporting the incredible, even miraculous, benefits of plant based eating. Best of all, no side effects. Salads do not come with a dozen warning labels attached, and you can enjoy fresh apples and oranges without worrying over any nasty side effects. In short, plant based eating is not merely an alternative way of eating, but perhaps the only way of eating worth our consideration.
