Empty Awareness – The Pink Persuasion!
Re-thinking Pink
October marks the time of year that many individuals use to reflect on either loved ones who struggled with breast cancer, or remember their own struggle with this life-threatening condition. Some people participate in festivities designed and marketed to ‘raise awareness’ of the reality of breast cancer, fueled by fund raisers that target the hope of ‘finding a cure.’
This operation, headed by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, uses pink as the colors meant to set these fund raisers and festivities into motion, by selling merchandise including shirts, coffee cups, ribbons, and other items bathed in a bright shade of pink. Thus, ‘pink’ represents a movement meant to push forward and fund research, cures, and other charitable causes surrounding breast cancer patients and survivors.
As noble as the movement seems, and as ambitious as the foundation’s goals appear, the Susan G. Komen Foundation is fueled by nothing more than a money-making scheme covered by a guise of charity. This disguise works disturbingly well, as more and more people follow the ‘pink’ trend by dying their hair, wearing pink shirts, or participating in walks and marathons held by the foundation.
The reality behind the Susan G. Komen facade harbors a hoard of clever marketing, good accounting skills, and a drive to make more money – and not for cancer patients. The reality is that Breast Cancer Awareness Month signals just another marketing ploy to scam the throngs of individuals who participate. This foundation’s goal is neither cancer awareness nor finding a cure. Its goal lies in picking the pockets of those with a heart by hiding behind the veneer of concern.
Selling Pink – Madhouse of Money!?!
Lots of questionable facts arise about the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the manner in which it earns its money. Between pinkwashing numerous industrial giants and suing smaller organizations supposedly supporting the same cause, Komen rakes in a surprising amount of money for a charity marketed as ‘finding a cure for breast cancer.’
The foundation’s former CEO, Nancy Brinker, earned a salary greater than her other charity-managing counterparts in 2013. She augmented this salary by about sixty-four percent since 2010, allowing her to make more money than the president of the United States of America.
A breakdown of Komen’s $390 million worth of assets includes 13% toward health screenings, 5.6% toward treatment options, 10% toward raising more money, 11.3% toward paying their employees or administrative costs, and 39.1% toward public education. While public education might seem like a good thing, Komen does not teach the people it reaches about preventative measures like diet options, the importance of rest and exercise, and natural supplements that can fight off the growth of cancers. No, most of this money goes to spreading the message of the importance of mammograms. Mammograms expose the body to high amounts of radiation.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation funds their operation primarily through fundraising through their products, donations from individual people, and by raking in $55 million from corporate sponsors, like KFC, Coca Cola, and General Mills. This means of a breast cancer charity getting funded is problematic, as all of these companies use carcinogenic ingredients and means to create their products.
Komen also receives plenty of pay through their stocks in major pharmaceutical companies that use synthetically chemical drugs that may create cancer to treat cancer. Other means of turning profit come from pinkwashing certain products, like drill bits for Baker Hughes in exchange for a $100,000 donation. Baker Hughes, a hydraulic fracturing company, drives a carcinogenic service that some studies suggest causes greater growth of cancer rates in surrounding areas.
DuPont, a chemical company that contributes to the planet’s pollution problem, provides the proper film required for mammograms so adamantly pushed by the Susan G. Koman Foundation. DuPont’s products and services play a role in the exposure of the general public to carcinogenic materials. Another favorite of ours, Monsanto, also supports Koman.
Scientific Persuasion!
Many scientists argue against the deceptive statistics laid out by Koman. Through clever wording and representation, the Susan G. Koman Foundation persuades many women to participate in mammograms, as they will ‘save lives‘ through ‘early detection,‘ while mentioning what may seem like a strong-holding statistic.
Meantime, some scientists counter this argument, saying that only .07% of women who participate in regular mammograms will experience the hyped-up risk-reduction so eagerly trumpeted by Koman. This means that only seven out of every 10,000 women actually benefit from regular breast cancer screenings.
So, Koman persuades many women to expose their bodies to high levels of radiation that could cause cancer, in order to stop cancer? And has money on drugs marketed to help manage and control cancer, even though they could make the problem more severe? It’s a wake-up call. As Koman uses pinkwashing propaganda to persuade American women with false messages of hope and identity, it also entices them into an unfair game of potential bodily destruction by scratching the backs of companies that poison the public with their pollutants and carcinogens. With all these facts side by side, we want our readers to rethink pink.
Take Back October!
Since the Susan G. Komen Foundation turned October into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we decided to clarify the pinkwashed lens, and take October back by truly honoring the unique individuals surviving this deadly disease. We do this by educating our readers on the healthier, safer options for prevention and treatment of breast cancer. So, take off those rose-colored glasses, and push the pink out of the picture with real solutions to the problem.
Some of these alternative breast cancer treatments include options such as wholesome medicine systems that involve traditional medicinal practices like Chinese medicine and the Ayurveda, mind-body treatments like prayer and meditation to optimize the body’s relaxation and functions through syncing, nutritional therapy, herbological supplements, and naturopathy.
The long list of natural treatment options for breast cancer shows you that you do not have to be pushed or coerced into a decision immediately following diagnosis. It also shows that the body can work naturally toward healing itself and stopping the deadly growth of cells causing the cancer.

No clinical studies performed on humans are available, but experiments performed on rodents show evidence of general health improvement through adding an allspice supplement to their diet.
Another cancer-fighting spice, cinnamon, significantly reduced oxidative stress in rats. The rats were fed a 10% concentration of cinnamon bark for 90 days, with elevated levels of antioxidant-related enzymes present in some of the organ tissues. One study showed that cinnamon mixed with thyme has one of the most potent anti-cancer effects on the human body.
The list of spices and their potential to help inhibit cancerous growth is long and comprehensive, supplemented by some studies performed on animals, and others on humans.
